2nd Chance Baseball Mission
To provide more opportunities to more baseball players to learn, develop, and apply skills. To create a competitive environment that replicates a high school program and builds upon a players' desire and determination to play the game. Many players are cut each year from schools because they did not have that "Longer Look" or "2nd Chance" during tryouts. These players can greatly benefit from 2nd Chance Baseball by practicing and playing during the spring season. "2nd Chance" players have opportunities to develop and apply their skills to increase their chances of making their school teams in the future.
2nd Chance Baseball Approach
SCB Players are placed on a Junior Varsity or Varsity level SCB team, depending on skill level, and are able to play a 25+ game schedule against area Private School teams, Home School teams, and/or other SCB teams during the spring season. In the SCB Approach, baseball is taught and played in its purest form allowing players to understand how the game is played. This gives the player an opportunity to see that there are more than just the starting roles that contribute to a team. Through this experience, players learn how to become better teammates, they gain a broader perspective of the game, and they learn how to be "ready" to play instead of "expecting" to play. This mental approach allows the player to truly develop and enjoy the great game of baseball!
2nd Chance Baseball History
2nd Chance Baseball was started in 2007 in Houston, Texas by Power Baseball. Joel Bomersbach, Texas State '97, founded the idea as there was a growing need for a genuine spring baseball program that could help players stay in the game as well as continue striving for the opportunity to be a part of their High School team. There is something unique about being in the dugout with your team and experiencing all the great things that baseball has to offer. 2nd Chance Baseball replicates a High School program and experience as the mission is to provide more opportunities to more players to learn the game, understand what it takes to truly be part of a team, and reflect the true essence of the game....picking each other up!
